Too many essential elements of our community don’t get the recognition they deserve. Often, the people and organizations making an impact don’t seek accolades, don’t nominate themselves for awards, and may even shy away from praise. These people aren’t necessarily the most vocal, or the most skilled networkers. But they constitute the true fabric of a community.
The Townie Awards aims to honor these people and institutions. The ones quietly making Greater Newburyport the unique place it is. That means bartenders, baristas, artists, nonprofits, community gathering spaces, and more.
During the nominating process, I’ve heard from nominees: “I’m honored, but there are others more deserving.” “I haven’t lived here long enough.” “My business is too new.” “No one even knows who I am.”
From the beginning, we’ve made it our mission to broaden the definition of “Townie.” Maybe you have deep roots here, with a family going back five generations. Maybe you just moved here a few years ago, started a business, and only recently found your place in the community. Townies are people of all stripes, all ages, and all levels of experience. What unites them is a shared passion for Greater Newburyport, and a desire to make a positive mark on the community.
Our nominees represent Townies of all kinds. This is your chance to show them some love.
Voting is now open to the public through early October. Make sure to check out the voting form to learn more about the people making a local impact, and of course, vote.
Winners will be honored at our Townie Awards event on October 24th at the Custom House Maritime Museum. Look forward to performances from local musicians, a complimentary wine tasting, small bites, fun surprises, and of course, a ceremony celebrating our winners. Tickets are available here.
Happy voting!
