McCauley Would Bring Integrity and Transparency to City Hall

I have been a Newburyport resident for over 20 years, raising two children who have recently gone off to college and will help where I can by continuing to volunteer in this amazing city I chose to call home. Jim McCauley is my candidate for Mayor because to me, he stands out.

He understands what matters to us: safe neighborhoods, responsible development, transparency in city government, and making sure every resident is heard and respected.

Jim doesn’t just talk about these values—he lives them. I have watched 6 years of his City Council meetings and have attended other city assemblies where he brings people together across differences, and asks thoughtful questions. He follows through on his commitments. This kind of leadership is rare and very much needed as we tackle the challenges ahead: protecting our water supply, funding overdue maintenance and negotiating development projects.

The proposed Kmart development is on everyone’s mind. Jim acknowledges the need for housing, but has been vocal in asking tough questions like: why should taxpayers be subsidizing this development?

We need a mayor who knows our community, listens deeply, acts with purpose, and leads. Jim McCauley is that person. He’s thoughtful, honest, and genuinely cares about the future of Newburyport. I trust him to guide us forward with clarity and heart.

If you’re looking for someone who puts people first and leads with vision and integrity, please join me in voting for Jim McCauley for mayor.

You are so right! We desperately need Jim McCauley to lead us thru the mess we are in with major water supply issues and the looming KMart mess! The current mayor listens to no one but himself & tribe!!! The future is dire with him in charge!!!!! So sick of his face everywhere you look……

What I don’t see here, or on Jim’s website or on any social media is any specific ideas or plans for anything. All I see is criticizing everything and anything, without offering any ideas or alternatives.

That’s not what I’m looking for in a mayor.

    1. dear anonymous- i am responding since i wrote the above letter. I will quote from todays mailer “prevent drastic tax increases by committing to annual spending growth target of 2%, no split tax rate, no prop 2 1/2 override to pay bills”. The mayoral debate between both candidates is tomorrow at the Nock Auditorium, 7pm.
